Who's Afraid Of The
Big Bad Wolf?
We are all familiar with the
children’s story of the Three Little
Pigs and The Big Bad Wolf. One little piggy built his
house of straw, one built his house with twigs, and one
built his house
with bricks. First, the
wolf came to the first house, he huffed and he puffed
and he blew the
house down. Then he went to the second house and the
same thing happened.
The houses built with the straw and twigs did not stand
up
under his attack. They came crashing down. However, the
three little pigs used
bricks to build the third house, and when the wolf tried
to blow
it down it did not collapse.
In building a home, you start with the foundation. The
building is only as strong
as the base on which it is built. It is imperative that
when we
build our house, that we build it upon the Rock, which
is Jesus Christ.
In Luke chapter 6, Jesus is talking to His disciples. He
was telling them
how they should live. He talked about the beatitudes,
fruit, giving, judging, love,
and being wise and foolish in building their houses. He
was showing them the
difference between a doer of the Word and one that only
hears what He says.
Luke 6:46-49. “And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do
not the things which I say? Whosoever cometh to me,
and heareth my sayings, and
doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like: He is
like a man which
built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation
on a rock: and
when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon
that house, and
could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock. But
he that heareth,
and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation
built an house
upon the earth; against which the stream did beat
vehemently, and immediately
it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.”
In Matthew 7, Jesus is talking to them about how to
enter into
His Kingdom. “Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide
is the gate, and
broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many
(mostly)there be which
go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow
(from
obstacles standing close about) is the way, which
leadeth unto life,
and few there be that find it.”
He goes on to tell them in verses 21-23 that not
everyone that calls Him
‘Lord’ will enter into the kingdom of Heaven, only those
that do the
will of the Father. They will protest, saying ‘but
Lord, did we not
prophesy in They Name? Did we not cast out devils? Did
we not
do many wonderful works in They Name?’
Jesus will say unto them, “I never knew you, depart (go
away) from
me, you that work (commit, minister about, be engaged
in) iniquity
(wickedness, unrighteousness).”
He repeats the warning about building our houses upon
the Rock.
Romans 6 says: "Let
not sin therefore reign in your mortal body,
that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. Neither
yield ye your
members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but
yield
yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the
dead, and your
members as instruments of righteousness unto God. For
sin shall
not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the
law, but
under grace. What then? shall we sin, because we are not
under the
law, but under grace? God forbid. Know ye not, that to
whom
ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye
are to whom
ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience
unto righteousness?"
Our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit. God help
us to build our
‘house’ upon a rock. So that when the big bad wolf
comes huffing and
puffing, and the rains come and the winds beat against our house,
it will stand firm, having a solid foundation.
