1 John
5:14-15 " Now this is the confidence that we have in Him,
that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And
if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we
have the petitions that we have asked of Him."

We can have confidence when we pray to
God, knowing that if we are praying according to His will, He
will hear, and He will answer. How can we know if a thing is
God's will? Let's look at James 1:5 " If any of you
lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men
liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him."

And Romans 8:26..." Likewise the
Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we
should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit maketh intercession
for us with groanings which cannot be uttered."

"Confidence" means boldness,
assurance. It is a word used as a political term and refers to
the freedom to speak publicly. Jesus gave us a 'pattern' in
Matthew 6:9b-13..."Our Father, which art in Heaven,
hallowed be Thy Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in
earth, as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And
forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not
into temptation, but deliver us from evil: for thine is the
kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen."

Some people refer to this as "the
Lord's Prayer", but this is the prayer He gave us to pray.
His prayer is found in John 17 where He is praying to the
Father.

God answers ALL prayers. At times, the
answer might be 'yes', and at other times, ‘no.’ Sometimes
He will say 'yes' but not yet, because the timing is not right.
It may be that, like Paul, He will just tell you, " My
grace is sufficient." 2 Corinthians :12:9.

It is okay to question God about an answer. He is a Mighty God,
and He knows we have questions. David questioned God as we
see in Psalms 13. Even Jesus questioned His Father in Matthew
27:46 . It is okay to question, but we must keep in mind that
God’s answers, whatever they may be, are for our good. He
loves us so much that He says “no” when a “yes” answer
might be harmful to us. On reflection, I am certainly grateful
for the times I prayed for something and He said “no!”
